I'm not sure if what I'm about to say applies to this conversation, but we shall see.
I am getting ready to buy the FACTIONS campaign after completion of Prophecies and Nightfall. If I understand correctly, the Factions PvE storyline forces players to participate in PvP in order to gain faction points and progress the story. If this is true then I, as a non PvP'er, would most definately take advantage of this leeching thing to get those points and move on with the game. I don't like PvP and I think Anet may realize they crossed a line by forcing people to PvP in order to progress the story. Kind of a cheezy attempt at trying to introduce more people to it if you ask me.
Perhaps the reason they have not removed faction points for the losing side is because they know they screwed the pooch by forcing people against their will to participate in PvP.

Again, I don't know if this Fort Aspenwood that y'all are talking about has anything to do with the forced PvP deal for PvE'ers though... Correct me if I'm wrong and if I've completely misunderstood the Factions thing, then sorry and please disregard!

Cheers!

You dont have to do the PvP its just one of the options to complete the amount of faction you need at 1 point to move on in the story. You generally get the most of the 10K faction you need just by doing all the side quests, which ultimatly also lead to exp and gold and drops and generall by doing all the side quests your just a bit off of the 10K. From there you have the choice to either go to the PvP sections to get the last bit of faction you need or the other option which is a few side quests you get in explore ereas that are repeatable. All you do is find the guy do the quest gain the faction then leave the area and renter go find the guy and do the quest again.

These people that leech dont do it cause there "forced to PvP" they do i to abuse a flaw in the PvP section. They do it for greed to trade in all faction for the material to either sell or use on there armors, or to trade it in for faction for there alliance to gain the befirending title and go for or maintain control of an outpost.

The leechers do it simply cause there lazy and rude and basically dont respect the gaming community. If they did respect the other gamers they wouldnt leech in the first place and not ruin that area and ruin the other players experience.

With all that in mind and for how long Anet has allowed it to go on you simply can only ask why? Anets done a lot of good with the game and brought me much enjoyment but whenever I think of Factions or want some Luxon or Kurzick armor im put into such a state of disapointment in Anet and frustration and hate for the disrespectfuls in the game we call leechers.

Its because of this flaw that Anet lazily casts a blind eye to and the jerks who take advantage of it at the expence of countless others who are honest and frankly better people then they will ever be that I refuse to touch any 15K luxon or kurzick armor and try to avoid as much contact to Cantha in general. And you know theres plenty out there with similar, same, or more extree feelings to that and the thought that anet simpley allows these feelings fester and grow stronger for this long truly makes me frown

As I have said allready as have others I think removing the free faction and exp for losing would eliminate leechers to a near all out entirty and ultimatly revitalize that area into the great intro to PvP that it should be.

At the same time though I wonder. Would perhaps instead of always posting on these forums the protest? Would persistent letter of complaints work?

Like a universal letter made and posted on forus pleading to Anet to fix it with possible solutions the game community itself thought of to help them, and we all copy and paste it to our emails and send it to Anets support or wherever?

Or perhaps even we make 2 threads in the forums. 1 that you post in if you want to say yes to fixing Aspenwood and state why you think and what you think would do it. And the other thread saying Leave it be and post why you think it? Perhaps after so long these threads are closed and tallied and then presented to Anet to show them the general feelings of the Guild Wars community?

Although this is not easy, a solution is to have a day where nobody plays Aspenwood. What will happen is that all the leechers will enter the game with other leechers and be stuck in an afk battle.

This will effectively lock out Aspenwood until either:

1) A leecher starts a turtle.
2) ANet intervenes and restarts the Aspenwood games.
3) They leech the full time and gain faction through the natural regen on the kurzick side.

During that day or "weekend event", we could all go play Jade Quarry.

You cant simply say to go to the Jade Quarry for that weekend though cause the leechers will follow the honest players there as well.

The leechers will go where the majority of honest players are to avoid the circumstance you brought up and also for the hope that there team there leeching off of is better then the other so they get the bonus 400 faction as abonus to there craptastic ways.

The idea of running to Jade is a temperary solution at best as what it will be is a migration pattern basically. The honest flee the leechers(which should never have to happen to begin with cause quick decisive solutions should happen when leeching oportunities are presented) to the other place. They have maybe a day of honest gaming at best cause then all the leechers will have followed and you will go through about a week of getting the honest to then flee to the other place and the cycle continues anew.

What we need is for Anet to take an honest aproach to the problem instead of none at all to get a true solution and fix to this problem.

Not directing this at you since you're just asking the question but I really wish people would stop spreading false information or outright lying about Factions forcing people to PVP.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PVP IN FACTIONS.

There are plenty of ways to get kurzick/luxon faction without ever having to PVP. Quests and Challenge missions will get you all the faction you need. If anyone is using the excuse that they dont like PVP and leeching they are full of crap.

It is sad that people might try for Savior of the Kurzicks/Luxons by leeching.

I help people with missions and ALOT of people ask if they can go AFK. I either thell them No or charge a huge premium.

Recently I have been beset by people who want to get their Max survivor title and want me to clear the way for them while they stand back and collect XP. I do not encourage this either. I do not take people through whole campaigns either. I earned my 2 max titles through PUGs, Heros Henches, Wiki and just plain experience.

A few posts back there were some comments about respect for the game and other gamers..I would like to add that respect for the gaming experience is lacking too.

Whatever happened to earning your armor? I want ascended Kurzick armor for my Rit, but I want to earn it. I have a monk on the survivor track with over 200k XP and I ahve not gone AFK or leeched. Its just not in me.

But then again, maybe I am different, I like the challenges...I am one of the ones that would fight it out if it was 2 to 7...I might learn something. Guild wars is my entertainment, it is my escape...I have no social life, I work 8-4:30 have a pregnant wife and a 3 year old daughter...I don't need Guild wars to provide any meaning in my life...Its just a fantasy world where I get to kill stuff.

Sorry to hear about the leechers..I'll go check out FA and Jade Quarry..I still need to earn 1300 Luxon faction (the hard way) to get Gayla hatchery and get my third Prot title...There will be no leeching here.

Last time I played Ft Aspenwood was before NF was released in the fall and there were a lot of leechers. Now I've been trying it again with new classes and builds and it was the same, but it amazed me that the same people were still leeching.

There were a few guys from DyS, who were part of the alliance who was holding Cavalon a while back - so I guess where they got their faction. This one guy has been leeching in an amazing amount of matches and was still at it, this time on Kz side (let's just say his name rhymes with Hut Golz). Is this the way the alliances farm their insane amounts of faction to hold towns?

It just bugs me anyway since Aspenwood - when played with full teams on both sides who know what to do - can be a very fun experience! That's why I do it. But leechers ruin the fun, since what's meant as 8vs8 is usually 6vs5 or even less.

Not wanting to do PvP is no excuse for leeching, there are boring old quests that involve you running from points A-B-C and D if your brain can handle that kind of boredom.

Leeching in any form is just disgraceful and should incur penalties be it (ingame) monetary or otherwise.

another day - more afks.
and i adore it when ppl proudly show that they will afk - with pumkin heads or in the case of zoc a few weeks ago - by going in naked, equipped with with candy cane weapons!

maybe the ppl are right - maybe i should just stop playing there.

Well, we all who want to play Aspenwood hope you will continue to play. And although many don't post here, there still are people that play it. And I mean play.

Shame on you....you party killer!

IMO Leeching ruins the fun in fort aspenwood, and i think A-net should do something about it, since manny of the leechers uses bot's

BTW Upier, i wont question your monk build And its great that someone finaly tries to do something about leeching in FA

Thumbs up

todays wall of shame:

as you can see both the luxons and the kurzick have their regulars.
and ive decided that if i see anyone of the regulars - the luxon side (zoc and dwight) - i rarely play the kurzick side to be aware of the the offenders that keep repeating the afking - i am out of there. even if we get a team of 7 non-afks. i will tell i am leaving because of the specific leecher - screenshot - and be gonegonegone!
no point in getting worked up over some moron - since if they have better things to do then play with us - i have better things to do then to play from them!

Upier, you have stamina!

I'm not taking screen caps anymore, but practice the "I'm leaving in protest of AFKers - Arenanet fix this mission"-policy until it gets fixed.
